In your sketchbook on 1-2 page(s), create 8 scales as outlined below:
1 tint scale for a primary color
1 shade scale for same primary color
1 tint scale for a secondary color
1 shade scale for same secondary color
1 tint scale for tertiary color
1 shade scale for same tertiary color
1 neutral scale for primary colors (using it's complement)
1 neutral scale for secondary color (using it's complement)
TIPS:
-Grid out your work to show the 5 steps for each scale.
-Label each scale with paint colors and scale type before you begin.
-TINTS:Start with white and slowly add in your color. Mix your tint. Pre-mix before painting.
-SHADES: Start with your color and slowly add in your black. Mix your shade. Pre-mix before painting.
-ALWAYS add dark into light.
If you run out of paint mid-way through your painting, you will NOT be able to mix the exact tint/shade.
